Swanstrom and Crawford bring to the forefront what you should know about being prepared and how not being ready can and will affect you & your loved ones. Eye opening and thought provoking, an excellent read that everyone needs to buy and learn from now. Highly recommended.
The extensive research reflected in the content of this book is impressive. The novelette by David Crawford is an excellent (and gripping) read. The first chapter dealing with normalcy bias is excellent and I plan to use some of this material to discuss preparedness with my loved ones who currently prefer to ignore the possibility of a disaster that might involve them. I found the "Unprecedented Government Preparations" chapter almost as disconcerting as Executive Order 13603. These two items alone make this book a must read. I very much appreciate Mr. Swanstrom's reasoned approach to how to identify significant events (Key Indicators) and his equally thoughtful recommendations regarding preparedness. I look forward to reading future books in this series.
The first section is written by David Crawford who authored the popular novel, Lights Out (the novel examines how normal Americans might cope with a true national disaster shutting down the nation's electrical grid and follows the downward spiral created by such an event). Similarly to this earlier book, Crawford draws you in and leaves you with a "now what?!" and "what on earth would I do?!" feeling.
Sig Swanstrom begins where Crawford's gripping fiction scenario leaves off and gives real-life examples, advice, and wisdom on what TO and NOT do in a disaster where every second counts. It's obvious Swanstrom is not simply a writer, hiding behind his computer...but has actually lived and experienced dangerous situations himself, thus having both the understanding and training to help the reader if a similar situation ever occurs.
I was sent this book by a good friend (thank you Peter). I was skeptical at first, but once I got past the first chapter, my emotions soared! I was first astonished to discover the clandestine inter-workings of our government with respect to disaster preparation. My astonishment soon turned to anger! Anyone else reading this book will come to the same state of emotions, once they find out what is happening between the sheets, so to speak!
Great perspective on the topic of preparedness. Well researched, well written. An excellent source on the topic.
This is a most interesting work, and reflects some serious research. While it primarily applies to persons living in the USA, every thinking person, regardless of where they live should read.
Burying your head in the sand is more pleasant than thinking about the possible eventualities that could occur in this century, but boy is reading this book essential to your survival if only one of the possibilities occur. Thanks Swanstrom.
